Bread Machine Maple Wheat Bread

No ratings yet
Whole wheat flour and real maple syrup come together in this soft and flavorful Bread Machine Maple Wheat Bread. The maple syrup adds a gentle sweetness that complements the hearty wheat flavor without making the loaf taste overly sweet.
Using a combination of whole wheat and all-purpose flour helps keep the bread soft and light, while a little vital wheat gluten gives the dough extra structure. And because the bread machine handles the mixing, kneading, rising, and baking, it's an easy homemade wheat bread for breakfast, sandwiches, toast, or serving with dinner.

Why You'll Love This Maple Wheat Bread

  • Made with real maple syrup. Maple syrup provides natural sweetness and a subtle maple flavor.
  • Whole wheat without being heavy. A 50/50 combination of whole wheat and all-purpose flour creates a softer, lighter wheat loaf.
  • Soft and springy. Vital wheat gluten helps strengthen the dough and gives the finished bread a great texture.
  • Easy to make. The bread machine handles the mixing, kneading, rising, and baking.
  • Perfect for everyday use. Enjoy it for sandwiches, toast, breakfast, or alongside your favorite meal.

Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk warmed to 85–95°F (240 ml)
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup 80 g
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (43 g)
  • 1½ cups whole wheat flour 180 g
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour 180 g
  • 2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten 18 g
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast 6 g
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt 4 g

Equipment

  • Bread Machine

Method

  1. Warm the whole milk to approximately 85–95°F. Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly.
  2. Add the wet ingredients to the bread machine pan: milk, maple syrup, and melted butter.
  3. Add the dry ingredients on top of the liquids. We add them in this order: whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, vital wheat gluten, salt, and yeast. Follow your bread machine manufacturer's recommended ingredient order if it differs.
  4. Place the bread pan into the machine and lock it securely into place.
  5. Select a 1½-pound loaf and medium crust, then start the bread machine. For our KBS machine, we used the Soft Bread setting.
  6. When the cycle is complete, carefully remove the loaf from the bread pan and transfer it to a cooling rack.
  7. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Measuring flour: Loosen the flour with a spoon, then spoon it into the measuring cup and level it with a straight edge. Do not scoop or pack the flour into the measuring cup, as this can add too much flour and result in a denser loaf.
